By itself, Clavulanate potassium has weak antibacterial property, but when it used together with amoxycillin, it extends its strength so that it may be used to treat infections caused by beta-lactamases producing organisms. Amoxyclav belongs to that group of medicines known as penicillins. Amoxycillin is most prescribed by doctors to treat strep throat. Amoxycillin and Clavulanate are the top choices because they’re safe, inexpensive, and work very well on strep bacteria.
